"I have a satellite office; in the past, I had to extract my data and take it to the satellite office and restore it there. That was stressful because it didn’t always work. With CS OrthoTrac Cloud, that’s not an issue because as long as you can access the Internet, you can access your data. That was the #1 reason I decided to go onto the cloud.
As a side benefit of that, I am able to access the program wherever I am, whether at home or on vacation when questions come up. “My favorite feature of CS OrthoTrac Cloud is the ease-of-use. It’s just as easy and fast as a local-based server and so the only difference is one extra click when you launch the software. That also means that we did not need any additional staff training when we went to the cloud. Portability is also really nice—if it’s 6:00 p.m. and I still have work to do, I get out of the office and can log in from home. I don’t have to stay around the office to finish my work or go through remote terminal software.
The biggest advantage of switching from a local server to cloud is the cost savings. We were an early beta customer, and we were going to have to replace our server soon. It was going to be a significant expense to replace that and change over the database. The cloud helped us minimize our local hardware expense. I have $2,000 worth of computers instead of $30,000 worth of server. If a natural disaster were to occur (my area experienced “1,000 year” rainfall and severe flooding last weekend), I’m out less hardware but it’s also easier for me to get my practice back up and running. Also, it seems like getting rid of the server helped us save on our electricity bill.”
