Carestream Dental Participates in 5K to Raise Funds to Provide Dental Care to Developmentally Disabled Patients

Basic dental care is vital to ensure not just a healthy smile, but a healthy life. However, people with developmental disabilities and their caregivers often have trouble accessing reliable oral health care and, when they do, a trip to the dentist can be extremely stressful. Fortunately, the Dentistry for the Developmentally Disabled Foundation, a nonprofit in Atlanta, Ga., is dedicated to serving patients with autism, intellectual delays, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis.

Each year, the DDD Foundation hosts the Dental Dash at Dawn 5K to raise funds to support its program. In 2016, Carestream Dental was honored to become the Gold Tooth sponsor of the Dental Dash; the company is even more proud that over 30 of its employees participated in the 5K on a chilly March morning to help raise money for the Foundation.

“The goals of the Foundation align perfectly with Carestream Dental’s commitment to humanized technology,” Brian Moore, chief financial officer, Carestream Dental, said. “We provide equipment that’s not only easy for doctors to use, but is also safe, comfortable and nonthreatening for patients—not that different from the kind of attention the Foundation provides its patients, who need a little extra time and care in a safe environment.”

The Carestream Dental team won highest group participation and best average group time. Two Carestream Dental employees finished first in their age groups, while another finished second in his age group.

The real winner, though, was the DDD Foundation. Proceeds from the 5K totaled $22,000, which will go towards supporting the Foundation’s goal of providing quality dental care to patients with special needs. More information on the DDD Foundation can be found here.
