Prosthetic-Driven Implant Planning CASE STUDY: CS Solutions for Implants Facilitates the Implant Workflow

Challenge: Reduce the amount of time required for implant treatment

Solution: Incorporate CS Solutions for Implants/Prosthetic-Driven Implant Planning module into the implant workflow

Benefits

  • Streamlined workflow

  • Reduced treatment time

  • Enhanced patient education

  • Greater case acceptance

If you ask Dr. Nicolas Boutin what’s different about his implant protocol today versus the past, he will tell you it’s not cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) technology.

“I have been placing implants for 10 years now, and CBCT has always been a part of my treatment plan,” said Dr. Boutin. “But today’s technology makes the techniques of the past seem almost archaic. The most remarkable change is the simplicity of the system in my daily practice.”

Streamlined Workflow

Prior to incorporating CS Solutions for Implants and the Prosthetic-Driven Implant Planning module into his workflow, Dr. Boutin found treatment-plan creation to be very time consuming.

“I had to take the CBCT scan, import the file into third-party software and then start the planning process,” said Dr. Boutin. “It took so much time that I couldn’t do it in the office. Instead, I would do it from home after work.”

Now, everything is integrated. Dr. Boutin takes a CBCT scan and a digital impression during the patient’s first appointment. The implant planning software merges the files, and Dr. Boutin reviews them and plans the implant—alongside the patient. If the treatment plan is accepted, the patient can typically schedule surgery at the very next appointment.

Enhanced Patient Education and Greater Case Acceptance

It’s the 3D images and step-by-step approach of prosthetic-driven implant planning that enables patients to more easily understand their treatment plan. They develop confidence in the approach and the doctor.

“The software is an excellent educational tool,” said Dr. Boutin. “With the ability to place virtual teeth on the dental arch, patients can understand their clinical situation and see their future crown and implant in 3D instantly—and that’s a huge ‘wow’ factor. Case acceptance is significantly higher, and patient feedback is extremely positive.”

Reduced Treatment Time and Other Savings

Before CS Solutions for Implants, Dr. Boutin would typically spend 90 minutes with patients before they were able to make a surgical appointment. Now a patient can move to the surgical step right after the first visit, saving an average of one hour per patient. “This is huge when you factor in that we see 80 new patients per month,” said Dr. Boutin.

There is also time savings at the post-operatory phase. Thanks to digital impressions, Dr. Boutin can perform immediate loading just a few hours after implant placement. The savings in material and shipping costs is also significant.

When asked if he would recommend CS Solutions for Implants and the Prosthetic-Driven Implant Planning module, Dr. Boutin said, “Yes, go ahead! We already use it in our training courses, and the feedback has been excellent. It’s simple, yet very effective.”
