PRESS RELEASE: New Online Portal Makes It Easy for Doctors to Share Digital Impressions with Labs

Carestream Dental knows that behind any accurate restoration or fabrication is superior communication between the doctor and the lab. That’s why it’s pleased to announce the launch of CS Connect for fast, secure transmission of digital intraoral impression files.

“Uploading the correct patient data set in a universal format is critical for collaboration,” Marc Laurentin, product line manager, 3D and CS Solutions software, Carestream Dental, said. “With CS Connect, the doctor can easily transfer .STL and DICOM files to the lab without any proprietary constraints, allowing the lab to use the CAD software that best suits its needs.”

CS Connect is integrated directly with Carestream Dental’s Imaging software, so there is no need to launch any additional applications such as email or file transfer software. Not only does this streamline the sharing of data, it ensures that the doctor sends the correct data set, as the submission process is triggered directly from the patient’s chart in the imaging software.

DICOM and open .STL data is made available to the lab for download within minutes, allowing for instant verification of data sets by the lab when needed—the doctor and the lab can even exchange feedback while the patient is still in the chair if needed. The doctor is able to provide details about the margin line, texture and indication where necessary within the rich DICOM files. Plus, full HD 3D digital impressions provide stunningly realistic views of the patient’s dentition, offering additional efficiency to the lab and improving communication.  The doctor can also upload additional supporting digital images and files as needed, to provide further direction to the lab.

To further enhance doctor-lab communication, labs can create customized request forms that summarize the type of work and options they offer as services. These forms automatically provide the doctor with the correct lab request form and prevent the doctor from mistakenly requesting a service that the lab does not provide. The forms also streamline practices’ workflow, as there’s no need to search for and attach a scanned document or digital .PDF file to describe the requested work.

“CS Connect really reduces the barrier of adopting digital technology,” Laurentin said. “It’s conveniently integrated into the software interface; many of the steps for sending data to the lab are automated; and, for functions that aren’t automated, helpful ‘wizards’ guide the doctor through the process.”

CS Connect offers the convenience of 14 days of cloud storage for each uploaded data set. The lab can retrieve that data set any time within 14 days of the file upload. Because there is no need to immediately download the case, labs can access the information in a way that works best with their schedule.

CS Connect is part of Carestream Dental’s CS Solutions CAD/CAM portfolio, which includes the CS 3500 and CS 3600 intraoral scanners, and impressions scanned with the CS 8100 3D and CS 9300 systems. CS Solutions an open system that lets doctors work with the labs of their choice.
