Carestream Dental Supports Dental Care for Developmentally Disabled at Annual 5K

Before the sun rose one Saturday in March 2018, dedicated Carestream Dental employees, friends, family members—and even a few dogs—gathered in a quiet park in midtown Atlanta, Ga. In the chilly morning air, they stretched, twisted and touched their toes, preparing for the task ahead of them.  Some would run, some would walk, one even brought their scooter, but all were working towards the same cause: To raise funds to provide dental care to the developmentally disabled.

For the past three years, Carestream Dental has been the Gold Tooth Sponsor of the Dental Dash at Dawn 5K Walk/Run. This annual event, hosted by DDD Foundation, Inc. raises funds to provide care to patients with autism, intellectual delays, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and many lesser-known developmental disabilities. Since treating special needs patients can be a challenge in typical dental practices, patients and their families travel from all over the southeastern United States to see the doctors and staff at the DDD Foundation.

“Carestream Dental’s main focus is on simplifying technology, yes, but that would mean nothing if that technology weren’t simultaneously changing lives,” Heather Tuggle, director of brand and communication, Carestream Dental, and DDD Foundation board member, said. “When we see how the DDD Foundation provides such dedicated, life-changing care to its patients, we can’t help but feel that the goals of Carestream Dental and the Foundation perfectly align.”

The 2018 Dental Dash was one of the the DDD Foundation’s most well-attend events, with a record 400 walkers and runners participating in the 5K—24 of which were representing Carestream Dental. As a result, the Foundation raised $29,000 to support its various programs.

Due to such high participation, the Carestream Dental team took home the first place gold tooth trophy for largest team and best time. Also, four Carestream Dental employees placed in their age groups.
