FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Feb. 25, 2019
With the International Dental Show 2019 fast approaching, dental professionals are eagerly awaiting all the latest innovation to be unveiled. In anticipation of some exciting announcements in Cologne, Carestream Dental is first reviewing the impressive year its CS 3600 intraoral scanner, part of its CS Solutions CAD/CAM portfolio, saw in 2018.
First, in April, an independent scientific study reported the CS 3600 shared top rank among the seven scanners tested for highest finish line accuracy. The study designated finish line accuracy as “the ability of a measurement to match the actual value of a reference scan in the immediate proximity to the finish line.” Researchers also suggested the scanner’s clear and distinct color rendering could be helpful in “identifying the finish line compared to the monochromatic STL files.” Most significant, the CS 3600 consistently achieved better finish line accuracy and distinctness than traditional impressions.
The CS 3600 was also recognized with a 2018 Yahoo Sports Technology Awards in May. The scanner was used to take impressions of 120 rugby players to fabricate mouth guards for the 2017 Varsity Match between the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. The CS 3600’s open system, accuracy and fast scanning abilities ensured the mouthguards were created quickly and efficiently. Adding to its list of accolades, the scanner was also recognized in 2018 by several trade publications’ readers as a top technology product.
The year was also marked with several new third-party validated partners. In 2018, the CS 3600 was certified by Dental Wings for use with its Dental Wings Open System (DWOS), DWOS Chairside CAD Software and coDiagnostiX Implant Planning Software; certified by Motion View, LLC, for use with Ortho Insight 3D® software in treatment planning and appliance fabrication; validated for use with MODJAW Tech in Motion; and partnered with exocad2 to allow clinicians to capture digital impressions directly from exocad ChairsideCAD software. These new certifications expand the CS 3600’s ever-growing list of validated partners.
In October, the CS 3600 was selected by Evident for its Evident Restorative IOS System. The global technology company conducted an extensive evaluation of six of the industry’s top scanners, looking at everything from scan quality to the three-year cost of ownership. The CS 3600 was selected for its open system; high-quality digital files; competitive pricing and due to Carestream Dental’s years of experience developing digital technology. The CS 3600 now plays a significant role in the Evident Restorative IOS System, an open scanning system calibrated for ideal dental-lab results.
The scanner wrapped up a momentous year with an update to its acquisition software. The latest updates include new user-requested features such as Hybrid Scan, which merges the scanned-in vivo data with the scanned data from a partial conventional impression into a single file. Additionally, the scanner can now capture multiple bite registrations, ideal for doctors who practice sleep medicine. Other updates include improved acquisition speeds, efficient workflow selection and even the ability to play music while scanning.
“When it comes to digital technology, if you’re not moving forward you’re moving backwards,” Ed Shellard, D.M.D., chief dental officer, Carestream Dental, said. “That’s why we’re always seeking ways to improve upon the CS 3600, whether that means a new partnership or new software solutions. Carestream Dental is committed to expanding the CS 3600 and the entire CS Solutions portfolio in 2019 so doctors can change their patients’ lives.”
