Dr. Pascal Zyman’s busy practice took an average of 20 radiographs a day. Therefore, when it came time to consider a computed radiography (CR) system, he needed one that could deliver clear images for fast diagnosis.
Dr. Zyman previously had experience with a CR system while working in a hospital environment, so he was familiar with the benefits such a system could bring to his practice. Small but Mighty
Image quality plays a big role when deciding on new technology. However, if the system is bulky and takes up too much space or is difficult to use and maintain, is it worth it? Fortunately, Dr. Zyman found that the CS 7200 met all his expectations for enhancing his diagnoses, as well as fulfilling his list of “nice to-haves.”

“In most dental practices, there is little to no space on the counter,” he said. “However, this product is small and compact and perfectly fits within the practice.”
He also noted the ease of cleaning the system, as there are few nooks or crannies that could hide debris. The plate insertion is also simple, which made it easy to integrate the system into his practice’s daily workflow. According to Dr. Zyman, “the product is very simple to use, with few buttons.”
Filters for Every Diagnostic Need
And, of course, the image quality of the CS 7200 is superb, offering true resolution up to 17 lp/mm. Not only that, pre-programmed anatomic filters enhance image contrast according to diagnostic needs, such as identifying caries. Endododontic, periodontic and dentin-enamel junction filters also help Dr. Zyman make diagnoses for more complicated cases.
“I adjust the endodontic filter to find specific details, for instance,” he said. “When I want to check the fitting of an abutment on an implant, I adjust the sharpness to help me to identify the screw and the other components.”
No Gagging
Dr. Zyman’s not the only one to notice the benefits of the CS 7200—his patients are benefitting as well.
“It’s very good for patient comfort, as the plate is thin,” he said. “It’s easier for patients to accept the plate for difficult-to-image places, like the lower posterior. I’ve noticed that patients are much more likely to accept the thin plate over a sensor.”
When the patient is comfortable, Dr. Zyman is able to take better qualitative radiographs, as there’s no gagging effect.
CR and DR: Complementary Workflows
The familiar, film-like workflow of imaging plate systems often serve as a stepping stone for doctors looking to transition away from film towards digital radiography (DR). However, Dr. Zyman was unique in that he already used a digital RVG 6200 sensor for specific endodontic treatments—though his practice is dedicated mostly to bleaching, restorative composite fillings, veneers, crowns and bridges.
“I really appreciate working with both technologies—CR and DR—and use my CS 7200 for daily care,” he said. “They both address specific needs, and the combination is really great in my practice.”
Dr. Zyman uses the CS 7200 and RVG 6200 interchangeably when detecting caries or apical infections. However, there are certain indications that call for the CS 7200.
“When I take a full mouth series—which I do often in my specialty—or bitewings, I always use the CS 7200,” he said. “Therefore, I can confidently say that CS 7200 is essential to my workflow.”
Installation and Training
Since Dr. Zyman and his staff had experience with the simple three-step workflow of the RVG 6200—position, expose, view—there were some reservations as to whether the CS 7200 would be as equally easy to learn and use.
“At first, I was afraid I would lose a bit of time with the CS 7200 and there’d be a learning curve for the assistant,” the doctor said.
However, his concerns were laid to rest after efficient training from Carestream Dental.
