Tis the season when thoughts turn towards giving back and making a difference in the lives of others. With that in mind, Carestream Dental, along with the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Foundation, is pleased to give one very deserving professor of periodontology, Guo-Hao (Alex) Lin, D.D.S., the gift of scholarship with the Dr. D. Walter Cohen Teaching Award.
The teaching award is named in honor of Dr. D. Walter Cohen for his contributions to the study and practice of periodontology. The one-time payment of $10,000 is meant to assist beginning periodontal educators in launching their professions.
“I am greatly honored to be selected as the recipient of the 2016 Cohen Teaching Award” Lin said. “This scholarship will support my career as a young educator and researcher. It is a cornerstone in my early career to recognize my enthusiasm and interests in clinical research and dental education.”
Lin received his dental degree from National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan, in 2009, and his master’s of science and certificate in periodontology from the University of Michigan in 2016. Lin is a prolific writer and has co-authored more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His research focuses on evidence-based dentistry—systematic reviews and meta-analysis—as well as implant-related clinical studies. Lin is currently an assistant professor at the Marquette University School of Dentistry.

Carestream Dental has sponsored the Dr. D. Walter Cohen award since 2012. The award’s namesake, Dr. Cohen, established the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine’s first department of periodontics, serving as its first chairman and then moving through the ranks to eventually become the president of the Medical College of Pennsylvania.
